And yes, clinicians need support. The promise here is real: better triage, better documentation, better spotting of warning signs, better translation between what a patient says and what a chart needs. In theory, this could lower missed diagnoses, reduce burnout, and help less experienced clinicians get a second set of eyes.

But incentives matter. If an AI tool increases “throughput,” it won’t just be used to improve care. It will be used to see more patients. If it reduces uncertainty, it won’t just calm nerves. It will raise expectations that uncertainty should disappear. Medicine doesn’t work like that. A lot of “good care” is watching, waiting, and not overreacting. A system designed to analyze live signals may push toward action, because action looks like value.

The live video and audio piece is where my concern sharpens. Healthcare is intimate. People show up at their worst. Adding continuous capture, analysis, and interpretation into that space is not a neutral upgrade. Even if privacy protections are strong, even if it’s “just research” today, it normalizes a future where being examined means being recorded and parsed. Some patients will accept that. Some will hold back. And the ones most likely to hold back are often the ones who already have reasons not to trust the system.

There’s also a status shift happening. When a top-tier lab and top-tier medical schools work together, it sends a signal: this is the “serious” direction of medicine. That can be good—rigor matters. But it can also crowd out smaller, simpler fixes that don’t require a massive AI stack. Sometimes what healthcare needs is time, staffing, and better workflows. AI can become the shiny detour that lets everyone avoid the hard, expensive choices.

To be fair, keeping AI “supervised by clinical experts” is the right framing. I’d rather see “co-clinician” than “replacement.” I like that it’s positioned as research, not a finished product dropped into hospitals overnight. And multimodal systems that can combine what they see and hear might genuinely catch subtle problems earlier, especially in places with limited specialist access.

But supervision is not a magic spell. In real life, supervision gets thin when things get hectic. If the tool is useful, people will lean on it. If it’s wrong sometimes, people will still lean on it—because the alternative is admitting they’re guessing under pressure. The tool becomes the default, and the human becomes the rubber stamp, not because anyone planned it that way, but because that’s how systems behave when you add something that feels like certainty.

So the real question isn’t “can this help?” Of course it can. The question is whether we’re building a future where care gets more humane—or just more automated, more monitored, and harder to question because “the model” is sitting in the room with you.
